The Outstanding Contribution to the Arts award was given to Piping Hot Cwmbran at Cwmbran Community Council’s Community Awards evening.

This was read out as Steve Parker, from the band, collected the award at the Parkway Hotel on Friday 6 March.

“Piping Hot Cwmbran is a traditional Celtic bagpipes and drums band based in Cwmbran, South Wales. Since forming in early 2021, the band has grown into a full Pipes & Drums ensemble with experienced musicians – including multiple ex-Pipe Majors – and a repertoire that spans traditional marches, jigs, strathspeys, reels, laments and Welsh airs that celebrate our shared cultural heritage.

“What makes them so special is not just their musical talent, but their commitment to community and culture. They proudly represent Welsh and Celtic heritage, wearing distinctive ‘Pride of Wales’ tartan and Welsh Dragon insignia that reflect the pride they take in their roots and traditions.

“The band regularly performs at local events, festivals and celebrations bringing the evocative sound of pipes and drums to audiences of all ages and enriching the cultural life of communities across South Wales.

“Piping Hot Cwmbran also functions as a welcoming community project, encouraging people of all ages to learn and participate. Their inclusive ethos fosters fun, friendship and intergenerational connection through music, helping to keep a living tradition vibrant and accessible.

“Through their passionate performances, cultural representation, and community spirit, Piping Hot Cwmbran makes a significant and lasting contribution to arts, heritage and culture in our area.”
