One-off £100 payment to help winter fuel costs

Families in Wales who receive working-age benefits can get £100 to help with their fuel costs for this winter.

The scheme, funded by the Welsh Government, is open to households where one member has received one of these benefits at any time from 1 December 2021 to 31 January 2022:

  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance.
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance.
  • Universal Credit.
  • Working Tax Credits.

You must also be responsible for paying the energy bills for the property.

Minister for Social Justice Jane Hutt said: “I want to thank our partners in local government for ensuring the scheme was ready before Christmas. This will go some way to helping those in most need at this difficult time. We know that people across Wales are facing unprecedented challenges, that’s why we’re committed to doing everything we can to relieve financial pressures and help households with their living costs – supporting families, businesses and communities through these unprecedented times.”

How to apply

Local authorities will be writing to eligible households they are aware of, inviting them to make a claim to the scheme. You can also apply through your council’s website.
