A Newport-based band with thousands of monthly Spotify listeners will bring their original music to Crow Fest.

HeartBreak City City are performing at Cwmbran Stadium on Saturday 18 July- an event organised by Cwmbran Community Council.

Band member Toby Davy said: “People tend to really connect with the emotion in the music. We’ve had great feedback around the melodies and the lyrical themes: Love, loss, and longing are things everyone can relate to.

“We want people to feel the emotion in the songs as much as hear them. There’s a mix of uplifting moments and more introspective tracks, so it takes you on a bit of a journey.”

‘Nostalgic and fresh’

The band describes themselves as “nostalgic and fresh” with clear influences from the 1980s with a modern edge.

Toby said: “Our live set is built around atmosphere and energy. We blend rich synth layers with live guitar and vocals. We want people to feel the emotion in the songs as much as hear them. There’s a mix of uplifting moments and more introspective tracks, so it takes you on a bit of a journey.”

The trio formed in late 2023 but have a collective 15 years of experience performing in other professional bands.

Toby said: “Even if it’s their first time hearing us, audiences often get drawn in quickly, which is exactly what we hope for. It’s always rewarding to see people respond in a genuine way and stay with us through the set.

“Crow Fest has a great reputation for bringing together passionate music fans, so it feels like the perfect place for us to share our sound. As a band from South Wales, it’s also special to play a festival that celebrates the local music scene alongside emerging artists.”

Heartbreak City will be performing their own original songs but have promised to also throw in some “special covers”.

Tickets for the all-day event, full of music on stage and entertainment around the 3G pitch, are priced at £10 for adults (plus booking fee) and £5 for under-18s, who must be accompanied by an adult.
