Kayleigh Jones LOVES flowers and the happiness they bring to people. She grew up in Pontnewydd and lives in the village. For the last eight years, she’s travelled to her shop, O’Hara Floral Design, up the road in Newbridge.
Business was “booming” and she had great customers, but the opportunity of having a shop just minutes from her front door was a “no-brainer”.
She opened last Monday on New Street.
I popped in yesterday for a chat and she told me: “It just brings me so much joy and I just think it’s one of those gifts that you can give in any sort of circumstance. So if there’s something that you know, you’re celebrating, a happy time, or even if it’s a sad time.
“Like I always say to people, delivering is one of my favourite things to do because even if it is for a sad occasion, just the fact that someone’s thought of you.
“It could be a £1 bunch of daffs or it could be £100 worth of roses, that person knows that you’ve thought of them and it’s just like that glimmer and I just love it. I just think no other thing can do that, other than flowers, so it’s just so rewarding.

“That’s my favourite part of it, the passion, the joy that it brings every time that someone receives a bunch of flowers, you just can’t beat it. If I could bottle that up, I would, because unless you do it, you just don’t know that feeling that you get when you just deliver them, it’s lovely.”
Her business specialises in weddings, events, and funerals.
She added: “And then as the shop, we have a stand full of flowers, you can come in and pick any flowers. You can come in and order flowers as well, so if there is something specific like say, you wanted something specific for like an anniversary or a special birthday, then you can come and actually order specific flowers.
“But then we also do, which is really popular, a ‘grab and go’ section. So we always keep it fully stocked. You can come in, price points anywhere between £10 up to £50, and you can come in and grab a bouquet.
“Plants are a big thing. I love greenery, so we’ve always got indoor plants and also sort of planter gifts, so like roses. This time of year is like hyacinths, amaryllis in planters, because you can go and give it as a gift.”
