Seven year-old Liam Davies won the Cwmbran Town doubles snooker tournament last night against adults.

The youngster, from Tredegar, teamed up with his coach and former pro player Lee Walker to win 2-0 in the semi-finals and 3-0 in the final at Redz Snooker Club.

Liam started playing snooker 14 months ago but already has sponsors. He is backed by ex-Welsh professional Darren Morgan, Bob Davies Car Sales from Ebbw Vale and Motorcare Motor Factors of Abergavenny.

Liam has been playing now for 14 months and his highest break is 43.

His dad Leighton said: “Liam missed out on being the youngest ever Welsh International by 10 ranking points this year. He plays in the Cwmbran league every Friday against adult players.

“We live in Tredegar and Liam plays from the Red Triangle snooker club in Cross Keys. Liam practices for two hours per night Monday to Thursday.

“On Saturday mornings he plays at Lee Walkers Snooker Academy on Saturday from 10am till 1pm and then spends three hours playing against Darren Morgan. He will then play for four hours on a Sunday.”

Liam’s ambition is to be world champion.
