A HOUSING association has been given the green light for the external refurbishment of two blocks at an over 55s housing complex in Kinnock Court.

Melin Homes has been given approval to install external wall insulation, replace windows, and doors with double glazing and canopies and the existing air source heat pumps at Kinnock Court, that is off Edlogan Way in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran well as install solar panels to the roofs.

The work, that has been approved by Torfaen Borough Council’s planning department, is intended to upgrade the energy efficiency of housing complex.

Planning officer Caroline Pulley said the plans wouldn’t significantly harm the visual appearance of the existing buildings or the character of the surrounding area but a condition will require the colour of the resin brick style finish and the replacement windows and doors is agreed before installation.

Surveys didn’t identify any bats emerging from the buildings and no evidence of birds nesting there were found but as bats have been seen foraging nearby a note has been attached to the permission requiring work to stop if bats are discovered and to contact Natural Resources Wales for advice before restarting.

Any active birds nests will also have to be protected until the young have fledged.
