Giles Davies is standing in the Abersychan Ward county council election as a Labour Party candidate. Read why Giles thinks you should vote for him on 5 May

Giles Davies
Giles was asked to answer this question- You should vote for me in the Abersychan election because– and this is his answer

I love representing my home ward and working hard for local people and for our community. As your councillor, I have worked alongside others in our community to help people and improve our area. During the pandemic, I’ve helped out those in need locally.

I know things are hard at the moment with rising bills, so I’ll carry on my efforts to help people through the tough times. I’ve Chaired the local Social Enterprise Charity and I’ve worked with others to help set up local food banks, the local uniform scheme, Free to a Good Home and the tin on the wall scheme.

I helped set up the Annual Ward Pantomime and helped re-start the scarecrow competition. I’ve helped fund defibrillators in the ward and raised money for a variety of local good causes and to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, in memory of my late father Doug Davies. I’ve also worked on the Llanerch Memorial Fund, helping former councillor Gwyneira Clark and others set up a fund for a proper memorial to those who lost their lives.

I try to be accessible and easily contactable, online and in person around the ward. That record has been recognised by the Wales Audit Office as best practice and I will carry on with that work if re-elected.

I recognise there is still so much work to do, including pushing for better sports facilities in the north of the borough, so I was pleased to secure a commitment in Labour’s manifesto to a 4G artificial pitch in the north. I will also work to help secure a positive future for The British and for investment in our community and help for community groups and sports clubs in our ward, as they do a vital job.

In the past year it has been great to work alongside Lynda Clarkson for the ward, so I’d also recommend using your votes for her and for Bob Rogers, as you have three votes on 5th May.
