A FORMER beauty salon in the centre of Pontypool could be converted to flats with its ground floor remaining in commercial use.
Bevan Howells has applied for change of use planning permission to convert former treatment rooms on the first and second floor of number 33 Commercial Street to two one-bedroom flats.
It is intended to use the ground floor as an electrical showroom “to advertise the latest smart home products” while the back room on the first floor could also be let out with the application suggesting it could be used for “physio treatments” at the vacant shop that traded as First Impressions Beauty.
A planning statement submitted with the application describes Commercial Street as “the centre of the main town” with access to services, shops and leisure facilities with a primary and secondary school within walking distance as are Pontypool Park and the leisure centre.
No private parking would be provided but the Rosemary Lane car park is described as “within 150 yards” of the premises and there is a bus stop providing direct access to Cwmbran, Newport and Abergavenny 200 yards away.
The application is being considered by Torfaen Borough Council’s planning department.
