A Llanfrechfa family has raised over £5,500 within a week of setting up a fundraising page for St David’s Hospice Care- who are giving palliative care to their dad.

Tom Curran, is currently receiving care from Jayne, a clinical nurse specialist with St David’s, while his three children—Seren (15), Ffion (12), and Griff (7)—are being supported through their Unicorn service.

Ffion was at the hospice in Malpas, Newport and spotted a poster for the charity’s Kolor Dash 5km run in Cwmbran on Wednesday 27 August. The family decided they would like to take part in the fun event and raise vital funds for St David’s as their staff continue to support their dad.

In a JustGiving page set up by Christie, her mum, Ffion said: “As you may know my dad Tom Curran has stage 4 cancer. He was diagnosed in April 2024.

“Since then St David’s Hospice have been providing my dad care and a nurse called Jayne has been coming to the house to check on my dad and make sure that he is as comfortable as possible. Jayne is so lovely and kind and we are grateful for all that is done at St David’s at the hospice and in the community.

“I would love to raise money for this fantastic cause for all that they have done and continue to do for my dad.”
