Over 250 children and young people a day have been having fun with their friends during the Easter break at playschemes across Torfaen. Torfaen Play and Short Break Service ran schemes at eight venues giving the youngsters safe, fun and stimulating places to play watched by staff and volunteers.

The playschemes are at Cwmbran Stadium, Fairwater Leisure Centre, Woodlands field Penygarn, Cold Barn Farm Trevethin,  Noddfa Church Abersychan, Blaenavon Flower Gardens and St Dials and Greenmeadow Community Centre.

Each day over 250 children and young people attended across all the sites with 40 children having the opportunity to access one to one support due to their disability.

Cllr Mandy Owen, executive member for children and young people, said: “What a fantastic provision for the children of Torfaen offered by the play service and all the volunteers. One of the sites I attend this week had over a 110 children young people attend enjoying themselves and running around having fun letting off steam.”

Julian Davenne, Torfaen Council’s play service manager, said: “I can’t thank the staff and volunteers enough for all the hard work and commitment they give to supporting the children across the borough and giving opportunities. Without all the volunteers we would not be able to offer so much.”
