The lift at Morrisons Cwmbran

Work to repair the lift in Morrisons car park in Cwmbran is due to start “soon” and be finished by the “autumn.”

The lift hasn’t worked for several years, meaning that wheelchair users, parents with prams and toddlers, and people with mobility problems have to take a longer route to get to and from the town centre.

I first wrote about the out-of-order lift at the Grange Road store in October 2024 and was told: “The store is very aware of the issues with the lift and work is expected to start on repairing it next week.”

The lift never reopened. I asked for an update in June 2025 and chased for a comment, which finally arrived in September 2025.

The press office said: “We sincerely apologise for the delay in coming back to you with an update on this, it has been more complex than anticipated. On background, the new lift is currently in the design and planning stages and its likely to be early next year when it is replaced. The lift in the car park next to the shopping centre is out of order, however customers can still access Morrisons via the car park entrance.”

“Early next year” has come and gone.

This week, the supermarket chain said: “The team have informed us that further work is due to start on site soon and is expected to be completed by the autumn. This timescale is subject to there being no unexpected problems as work commences.”
