A Cwmbran man has been crowned the new WMF World Adventure Golf Tour champion – becoming the first British player to win the title.

Seve Kukielka took the top spot at last week’s tournament, held at Aces Minigolf Gloucester, the course he owns and runs. The two‑day event on 1-2 May brought together 41 of the best players from around the world, including competitors from America and New Zealand.

Seve told Cwmbran Life: “I felt a sense of relief more than anything when I won. I knew I was the favourite and could play the course well as I had the most experience on it. It was just a case of dealing with the pressure in those tight moments. I obviously felt extremely happy and proud too as the first British player to win an official WMF World final.”

After the final, players and officials headed to the Froombridge Mill pub for the official after‑party, but the celebrations were cut short.

“There was a power cut in the area at around 8pm,” Seve said. “Luckily all the players had received their food by then.”

Seve said the tournament was a huge success for everyone involved.

‘Dramatic’

“The tournament was amazing and well-received by all the players. The nature of the course made for some exciting and dramatic minigolf. We also made a lot of effort in other areas like the personal touches with the individual player boards representing the 42 players who competed and the inclusion of an opening ceremony.

“If the players had a good experience, that is all that matters at the end of the day.”
