Cwmbran teenager set for Commonwealth Games debut for Wales

A Cwmbran teenager has been picked to swim for Wales in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Megan Willis, 14, from Henllys, will compete for the paralympic swim team in Birmingham. Team Wales made the announcement this morning and the West Monmouth School pupil was “blown away.”

Suzanne, her mum, said: “She was blown away bless her. She genuinely didn’t expect to qualify this year, but raced an awesome 200metre individual medley whilst in Italy with the Swim Wales para squad. She’s very excited but also taking it as an opportunity to gain experience. We are extremely proud as you can imagine! To represent your country at any age is an honour but to do this at 14 is just amazing! We are so proud of her and the other Welsh para swimmers who are going to experience this together. The many hours poolside and early morning have been worth it. So many thanks to all at Torfaen Dolphins, Torfaen Leisure Trust, and  Swim Wales who have supported her and us on her journey.”
