Coed Eva Athletic under 14s girls football team had a double reason to celebrate during yesterday’s match v Fairwater Junior Girls. Summer Bowen-Quirk knocked in her 100th goal for her team who went on to win 6-3.

Summer, 13, reached the centenary in the South Wales Women’s and Girls’ league match at Cwmbran Stadium. Her tally has been made in 71 competitive matches since she started playing at the age of ten.

When the goal went in the coaches on the touchline surprised her with a new shirt with the number ‘100’ on the back and her name. Her teammates quickly grouped together for a team photo to mark the occasion. Summer wore her new shirt for the last five minutes of the match.

Tracey, her mum, said:

She loved it.  She knows and appreciates that without the team she wouldn’t have reached this. It was an emotional moment to be fair. These memories with the girls and the friendships they make through football are priceless.
