Cwmbran Youth won the Gwent Cup today beating RTB Ebbw Vale 16-10.

I filmed the final whistle as the Cwmbran boys celebrate and you can see them collect their trophies.

Cwmbran got off to a bad start after just five minutes when one of their props was sent off. The score was 10-0 until RTB got an unconverted try 10 minutes into the second half.

A Cwmbran centre got a yellow card so they were down to 13 men for ten minutes.

Cwmbran took an important eight point lead with a penalty by Scott Lewis. Another unconverted try by RTB led to a tense finish to the game.

An 80th minute penalty saw the ref blow the final whistle as Lewis’ kick flew through the posts to make it 16-10.

Danny Evans, one of the coaches said: “I’m over the moon. Let me tell you it was backs against the wall stuff. But we did it.”

Andrew Coombs, the Dragons and Wales lock presented the trophies to the players. The match was played at Abertillery Park.

It was a cracking match under a blue sky. Both teams brought excellent support with them.
