The mum of a Cwmbran teenager who fell through the roof of an abandoned building is raising money for a brain injury charity.

Alfie Smith,17, was rushed to critical care at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff after falling an estimated 18 to 24 metres to the ground on 10 October 2025.

Liza Evans, his mum, is now aiming to walk 90km during February as part of Headway’s nationwide challenge. The charity is raising awareness of one person being admitted to a hospital every 90 seconds with a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

She wrote on her fundraising page: “…the strength and resilience that this boy has made in such a short time is truly outstanding. In the early days of Alfie‘s accident, we were given information on Headway to help us try understand TBI the information we read was scary but very informative so this is why I’ve decided to do the February challenge so it helps other parent or family member’s gain the information as we didn’t know that every 90 seconds someone would be admitted to Hospital for TBI.”
