Cwmbran mum, 30, undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Her husband is running 150km for Cancer Research UK

A Cwmbran dad has raised  £2,500 for Cancer Research UK within two months of his wife being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Amy Isidoro, 30 had her second child, Benjamin, in January 2020. When her son turned six months old she discovered a lump and made an appointment to have it checked out.

She said: “I was diagnosed after I had a lump checked at Spire Hospital in Cardiff in July. I was told due to no family history and my age that it was probably nothing but best to get biopsy just in case and ten days later it was confirmed to be cancer. I am now undergoing treatment at Velindre followed by surgery in Nevill Hall in January.

“Chemotherapy is going well. I had a rough start with an infection and a hospital admission and an allergic reaction to one of the drugs but I’m getting through it, two more to go. I have had quite a few side effects, some hair loss, pain but overall I’ve managed to continue as normal as we can in covid times. Luckily my parents and my husband have been amazing and helped so much when I’ve had low days.

“Andrew took on this challenge and I am so proud. He has already raised £2,500 but would love to raise as much as possible.”

Andrew said: “It’s been really tough but she’s so brave and taken everything in her stride. I’m used to being the one who can fix her problems. I’m trying to support her the best I can but it still leaves you feeling fairly useless- after all, she’s the one going through the treatment.

“But I can’t just do nothing. So that’s why at 31, grossly overweight and incredibly unfit, I’m aiming to run over 150km across 13 separate races to raise as much money as possible to make sure no-one else has to go through this.”
