Owain Crowley

A Cwmbran man “smashed” his fundraising target for having his long hair cut short for a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.

Owain Crowley aimed to raise £700 from the cut and a fundraising party at The Laurels social club on Station Road in Pontnewydd (formerly the Pontnewydd Royal British Legion).

He told Cwmbran Life the final total for The Little Princess Trust was over £1,000.

He said: “It was for a good cause, for kids with cancer, and they’ll make a nice wig out of it now. They [The staff at The Laurels] set it up for us, and it was fab, a real good event down there, turnout…couldn’t have asked for better really.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Dan Bailey and the accordion band for coming down and everyone else who put a hand in to help.”

Karaoke

He thanked Hair By Kirsty, singer Rob Crowley and all “that sang on the karaoke” during the evening.

And how does he feel about a short haircut during the recent heatwaves?

“It’s weird,” said Owain. “I’m used to tying it up with a hair bun. I feel a lot cooler.”

💈 Good luck Owain! A Cwmbran man is having his hair cut off today to raise money for a charity that provides real‑hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Owain Crowley is hosting the fundraiser at Pontnewydd Royal British Legion.

Doors open at 4pm. His hair will be cut at 5.30pm, with all proceeds going to the Little Princess Trust. The charity will also receive Owain’s donated hair, which will be used to help create a wig for a child.

The event includes live music from the Gwent Accordion Club, followed by more music later in the evening. Visitors can also enjoy a light buffet and take part in a raffle offering a range of prizes. Raffle tickets cost £2 a strip, with every penny raised supporting the charity.
