Cwmbran man raises £1,900 toward the town’s youth theatre production of Evita

A Cwmbran man has raised £1,900 for the Congress Youth Theatre by singing a Carol of the Day in the run-up to Christmas.

Wayne Beecham has been the musical director of the youth group for 30 years. Since 2009 he used social media to post a Carol of the Day with his friends. During December he used Facebook Live to broadcast a daily performance of him singing while playing his piano in his home.

People were encouraged to donate to the Congress Youth Theatre. The fundraiser has now ended with £1,900 being raised.

He told Cwmbran Life: “I would like to say a huge thank you to family, friends and the people of Cwmbrân for all their amazing donations. Community organisations and charities like the Congress Youth Theatre rely on the kindness and generosity of the wonderful people in our community and I cannot thank you enough for smashing the target and raising this staggering amount.

“All the money raised will be spent on the youth theatre’s next production, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s masterpiece, ‘Evita’. The show runs at the Congress Theatre, Cwmbrân from 13-16 March. Tickets are selling fast and available on the theatre’s website or from the box office on 01633 868239.”
