Cwmbran’s Malcom Hawkins recently celebrated his 98th birthday doing what he loves – playing bowls with his friends at Torfaen Indoor Bowls – this is the club inside Cwmbran Stadium.
Cherie Moverley, club secretary, said: “He is the oldest member at Torfaen Indoor Bowls Club. He joined the club ten years ago at the young age of 88! He joins his regular group of players three times a week, enjoying the game, the chat and mostly the cakes they bring in to have in their tea-break.”
She said he recently met Rory Parry, the club’s youngest player at aged eight (see pics).

Cherie “Rory joins his granch, Kevin Clarke, every Sunday morning and is a very keen player – better than a lot of the adults, our champion in the making.”

The club gives a warm welcome to all new members. It’s open to all ages and is fully equipped for members with disabilities. You can enjoy your first two sessions for FREE and the club will give you the equipment and coaching to get you started.

Players only need to become club members if they want to play in league games and competitions, but members do pay less to play each session so it may be worth joining.
