Lisa and Gareth Davies have made local history – becoming the first couple ever to marry at Llandegfedd Reservoir.
The pair, who describe themselves as lifelong lovers of the outdoors, chose the hilltop overlooking the water as the backdrop for their outdoor ceremony.
The service on Saturday 1 August 2026 was led by celebrant Sian Cameron.
Lisa (previously Baulch) said: “Being lovers of the outdoors, we spent a long time searching for the perfect place to say our vows. We kept returning to Llandegfedd Reservoir, a beautiful spot we’ve visited countless times – perched high on the hill, overlooking the water, with a single horse chestnut tree standing proudly at its centre. It’s where we’ve had picnics, quiet evenings, and moments of calm. One evening, sitting under those branches, we looked at each other and wondered: is this the place?
“We contacted Llandegfedd Reservoir and Welsh Water, who embraced the idea wholeheartedly. We then found our celebrant, Sian Cameron, who wrote the most personal, heartfelt service – something that felt entirely ours. We chose to include the traditional ring exchange, but also a Celtic handfasting ceremony, both of us loving that Braveheart‑style symbolism of binding hands and hearts.
Chestnut tree
“Our guests were given picnic blankets and sat beneath the branches of the chestnut tree as we exchanged our vows. The views were breathtaking, the atmosphere magical, and the moment felt suspended in time.
“The team at the Lakeside Cafe and the rangers at Llandegfedd went above and beyond- clearing the area for us, preparing the space with such care, and serving the most beautiful drinks under the tree. Their kindness set the tone for the whole day. “
Lisa works with Torfaen Council’s Food4Growth team, which champions local suppliers.
Their special day was helped by Go Local for the invites, Holly at Llantarnam Grange for the cake, Carrie at Green Gables Grazing for the buffet and Kate at Botanic Possessions for the wildflower arrangements.
Gareth used his craft skills to add extra touches, including a handmade centrepiece and cake stand.
And in a lovely final touch, the driver from Tiger Taxis who picked them up and took them home said, “no charge for the bride and groom” when he dropped them off
