Three Torfaen food banks have each been given £1,000 from Cwmbran Community Council.

The cash has come from the budget for the council’s annual Cwmbran celebration event. The event was cancelled due to Covid-19 so councillors decided to donate £1,000 to:

• Kindness in the Community – Llantarnam Ward Foodbank
• Eastern Valley Foodbank
• Thornhill 4 U

Councillor Stephen Brooks, chairman of Cwmbran Community Council, said: “We were disappointed that Covid restrictions limited our usual arrangements to celebrate Cwmbran and its communities but delighted that the resulting savings helped us sustain the community by way of support to local foodbanks.

“We are also delighted to announce that our precept has been reduced this year. This means that Cwmbran residents will pay less for our services.”
