Community Council gives £10,000 to Citizens Advice Torfaen to help more residents. Plus 1,200 thermal blankets now being given out in Cwmbran

Citizens Advice Torfaen will be able to offer more services thanks to £10,000 from Cwmbran Community Council.

The donation is one of a number of measures the council is taking to help residents struggling to pay their energy bills. The council has just distributed 1,200 packs containing a thermal blanket, pair of socks and energy-saving advice leaflet to over ten partner organisations.

They will be able to give the packs to vulnerable residents who live in Coed Eva, Fairwater & Oaksford, Greenmeadow, Llantarnam, Lowlands & Avondale, Mount Pleasant, Northville, Southville, St Dials, Two Locks, Ty Canol, Upper Cwmbran East, Ty Canol, Upper Cwmbran West, and Upper Cwmbran Thornhill.

The partner organisations include Cwmbran Centre for Young People, Age Connect, Citizens Advice, CoStar, Thornhill4U, Two Locks Church, Victory Church, and Ebenezer Church. They are also available from the council’s office in Old Cwmbran.

£10,000 for Citizens’ Advice

CAB gives advice on debt and energy costs and where needed, provides energy vouchers to help households pay their bills.

Cllr Kebba Manneh, Leader of the Council said: ‘We are really pleased that we can partner up with CAB in this way. If anyone is struggling with their prepayment meter top-ups, or falling behind on monthly bills, go and see CAB in Cwmbran Library in Gwent Square and they will help.”

1,200 thermal blankets and socks

The council said the blankets ands socks were bought at discount from local company Promocorp Ltd. Residents just need to show evidence that they live in one of the wards.

Chair of the Council, Cllr Anthony Bird said: “The Council is determined to help and is grateful to Promocorp for their support. It’s very sad that many households would struggle to find the money for additional blankets in this cost-of-living crisis, but we know that it’s happening. If you know of anyone who could be going cold at home, please let them know about the support that is on offer from the Council, CAB and other organisations.”
