Call for women and girls to become football referees in Wales: Join a free taster session in Gwent

The Football Association of Wales has organised a free taster day in Gwent for women and girls to find out more about becoming a referee.

It follows the success of Cheryl Foster, who has just become the first Welsh referee to take charge of a Football World Cup match since 1978. She reffed the Brazil and Panama match.

A free event has been organised at Dragon Park in Newport on Tuesday 5 September from 6.30pm. The sessions will involve video clips, quizzes and prizes, along with the opportunity to learn about the Adran Leagues Referee Academy, which develops women and girls as match officials.

The academy provides a support network, training, mentoring, and events for women and girls interested in refereeing. Attendees will have the chance to speak to Welsh women who are already making their way in the refereeing world.
