A six year-old Cwmbran schoolboy who wants to become the first deaf formula one world driving champion has built up a large following on Facebook.

Caleb McDuff hit the news last last year when his skills behind the driving wheel of a go-kart became known.

Since then the Nant Celyn Primary School pupil has became a hit on social media with over 4,000 likes on Facebook. Since the age of two Caleb has lost around 90% of his hearing which classes him as ‘profoundly deaf’.

He started driving electric powered cars at 18-months old and now drives a go-kart powered by 50cc two-stroke engine that reaches speeds of over 40mph.

Caleb’s dad Ian said: “He can’t hear at all when he races as he can’t wear the processors for his hearing. It means he has to feel the movements of the car instead of relying on the noise of the engine. This is making him a more skilful driver.”

He is currently being filmed for a TV documentary. Watch this clip of him on ITV Wales from December 2013.
