A BY-ELECTION is taking place in part of a ward that elected the first Reform UK councillor in Wales.

The election is to fill a vacancy for the Trevethin ward on Pontypool Community Council and is being contested by both the Labour Party and Reform UK.

In February, Stuart Keyte became Reform’s first elected councillor in Wales when he won a by-election to represent the Trevethin and Penygarn ward on Torfaen Borough Council.

The two women fighting for the volunteer community council seat are Labour’s Chris Peploe and Reform’s Sarah Lang.

The election takes place on Thursday, July 31 with polls open from 7am to 10pm and registered voters aged 16 and over can vote with no requirement to show or bring voter ID.

Polling stations are at Cold Barn Farm Youth & Activity Centre, Woodside Road; Pontnewynydd Sports and Social Centre, Mill Road and Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllw, Folly Road.
