Barclays is closing its branch in Cwmbran town centre.
The bank gave three reasons for why they have decided to close their branch at 2 Gwent Square in October
- 89% of people who use the branch have also banked using their app, website and phone banking in 2021
- 14 people use this branch regularly as the only way to do their banking
- 17% of customers have used nearby branches in the last 12 months
Customers have been sent a letter to explain the next steps.
The letter said: “Many of our customers are choosing to bank differently these days, which means there are fewer customers visiting our branches and because of this, we’re going to be changing the way we support our customers in your area.
“We’ll be closing our Cwmbran branch on Thursday 20 October 2022 at 12pm. The decision to close a branch is never easy and we appreciate this might not be welcome news, but we’ll make sure you and your local community continue to have access to our banking services when you need them- it’ll just be in a different way.

“We’ll still be part of your community in Cwmbran- we’re just finalising the details of when and where we’ll be based to support you with your banking but in the meantime we’re keen to hear what you think. The letter tells customers that their account number and sort code will remain the same.
