A Cwmbran family flew to Florida last week to be in the audience of the Saturday Night Takeaway show for the series finale. A 44-second clip of Debbie Chard walking into her home in Coed Eva and finding her family had covered the walls, stairs and bannister in tin foil won them a trip to Universal Orlando.
Debbie opens the front door to find her daughter Megan is filming her. She walks to the dining room where she is greeted by her other daughter, Rhiannon.
Megan told Cwmbran Life: “We had to surprise our mum with an early Mother’s Day surprise as part of the weekly Saturday Night Takeaway Twitter competition.
“We bought ten rolls of tin foil and stuck it on the walls, stairs and bannister in our hallway. When our mum came home from work she had no idea this was happening. We made her walk down the hallway into the dining room where we made a sign saying Happy Mother’s Day out of tin foil and sticky notes. We also made a cup of tea and cake and biscuits ready on a tin foil table because she always has this when she gets home from work.”
A phone call from the show broke the news that they were on the plane. Megan said: “As soon as she said we had won we all started screaming.” Brother Ben joined his two sisters and mum on the holiday.
“All week we were looking forward to the show on the Saturday. Before the show we had to get our wristbands and queue up ready to go in.
“We started talking to some of the other winners. During the show I didn’t stop smiling the whole way through. I was gutted when it ended because I never wanted it to finish but it was amazing.
“After the show everyone was just really happy to have been a part of it. There were even loads of people watching from behind the barriers who couldn’t get into the show.”
