He walked through the lobby and lounge in the Parkway Hotel on Sunday 18 October, proudly wearing a jumper that said ‘Made in 1919.’
Owen Filer was born on 19 October 1919.
Lily-May Bailey, his 28-year-old granddaughter, walked him through the hotel. She told Cwmbran Life: “He has the most amazing memory…he is amazing. I think that’s what probably made him the way that he is. It’s because he’s constantly still learning.”
He was given a ‘railway engine’ birthday cake. Owen started a career with Great Western Railway in 1940 before being called up to the army in World War II. He went back to his job after the war and retired in 1983.
