A family fun day and charity cricket match with a difference is taking place this Sunday as cardiologists take on anaesthetists in a friendly showdown to raise money for ‘Be Heart Happy‘.
The Gwent‑based cardiac charity has more than four decades of history supporting patients across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
The event, now in its fourth year, will be held from 2pm at Llanarth Cricket Club in Raglan (NP15 2AU) and promises a full family fun day alongside the match. Visitors can enjoy a jazz band from 2–3pm, glitter tattoos, a raffle, an inflatable slide, ice cream, pizza from Pizza Girls Ludlow, and a cake stand bar. Entry is free.
Be Heart Happy was previously known as the Royal Gwent Hospital and St Woolos Hospital Cardiology Fund. It provides the kind of training, equipment and patient support that goes beyond what the NHS can offer. For over forty years, the charity and its volunteers have helped deliver field‑leading cardiac care, aiming to give patients longer, healthier, happier lives.
Friendly competition
Bethan Davies, Chair of Be Heart Happy and daughter of Dr John Davies (late president of the charity) said: “Our annual Family Cricket Day is a wonderful example of what makes our community so special. It brings together healthcare workers, families, friends, local businesses and supporters, all putting aside their day jobs and coming together for a bit of friendly competition and, most importantly, a great cause.
“The funds raised through events like this have a very real impact. They enable us to provide equipment, training and additional resources that can improve patient comfort, support our clinical teams and enhance the care available to heart patients across the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. Every person who takes part, donates or helps make the day happen is contributing to that and we’re hugely grateful.”
