An 11‑year‑old snooker player from Cwmbran is in the running for a £1,000 prize in GoHenry’s Dream Big competition.
Freddie Smith is asking Cwmbran Life readers to show their support and take a minute to vote for him online here.
The Our Lady of the Angels RC pupil is a finalist in the competition run by the children’s debit card and financial education app. Thirty‑six winners will be chosen, each receiving £1,000 to help them follow their dreams.
His mum, Sarah Smith, said: “I first heard about it from Amy Dowden’s video on Instagram.
“I initially submitted a little paragraph about Freddie’s achievements and it’s gone from there. We’ve had the email to say he’s in the final. It’s an annual competition for UK residents aged 6 to18, giving them the chance to win £1,000 towards their dream.
“There are three categories – kidpreneur, community and talent – which Freddie has entered for his snooker. Winners are selected from across the UK by a mix of judges’ votes and the general public through online voting.
“We’ve entered as Freddie loves his snooker. At 11 years old he’s already represented his country and has travelled to Turkey, Spain and Ireland in the past 18 months. The money would help with the costs that come with that, the practice and future events.”
Freddie practises at Redz Snooker Club and is a member of the Redz Snooker Junior Academy.
