A new Cwmbran‑based business is launching specialist sport and fitness sessions for children and adults with disabilities, autism and ADHD.

Pathways, founded by Iwan Hooper and run alongside lead trainer Joe Thomas, aims to create a safe, calm and inclusive space where people with additional needs can build confidence, improve wellbeing and enjoy movement at their own pace.

Both Iwan and Joe work at Crownbridge Special School in Cwmbran, bringing hands‑on experience of supporting children with complex needs.

Iwan plays football for Cwmbran Celtic FC. He said he has qualifications in sport science, personal training and swimming teaching, and set up Pathways to give people a “safe, supportive and inclusive environment where autistic individuals and people with additional needs can build confidence, improve wellbeing and reach their full potential.”

Joe brings a strong sporting background too – including three years as a professional footballer with Cardiff City FC and gaining a UEFA C coaching badge. He now plays as a semi‑professional for Barry Town FC.

The new sessions will offer a mix of fitness, movement, life‑skills coaching, confidence‑building and wellbeing support, tailored to each individual. The sessions are a maximum of five. The cost is £10 for a one-hour session and they take place in the sports hall at Crownbridge School.

Local area

Iwan told Cwmbran Life: “Me and my mate decidedd that in the local area, there’s not a lot in the local area and around for children and adults with disabilities, ASD and autism.

“We thought, why don’t we start doing fitness, healthy, active sessions for children and adults with additional needs. We want to get the word out.

“The sessions are for groups of five, so not so overbearing.”

He said the sessions involve “a little warm-up into main games and fun” before “moving into things that will push them.”

The sessions end with a “run down” and participants are asked “what they liked.”
