Members of the plein air group drawing in Pontnewydd

A group of artists spent this morning sketching scenes around Pontnewydd. They’re all members of the Bridge 46 to Five Locks Plein Air group.

Plein Air is the practice of creating art outdoors, working directly from the landscape to capture natural light, atmosphere and real‑time detail.

The group drew from 10am to 12pm before meeting up again to chat about their work. They kindly allowed me to take some photos, and a video interview with member Phil Hughes will be shared later today.

The group meets once a month from March to December at a different location, and new members are always welcome.

They also hold an annual exhibition at Pontypool Museum to showcase their drawings.

Join the Bridge 46 to Five Locks Facebook group to check when and where the plein air group will meet next.
