Cwmbran’s HMV store is set to host a live performance by Kalamity, a three‑piece alt‑rock and hard‑rock band fronted by local musician Kaylene Cawkwell.

Kaylene, who grew up in the town and attended Croesyceiliog School, formed the band with Luke Clemenger and Christopher Seldon after meeting them at university. The group describes its sound as blending “introspective, storyteller lyrics with a vintage, apocalyptic feel, accompanied by funky riffs and hard‑hitting drums.”

She said: “I grew up in Cwmbran and after moving to Bristol and graduating with a degree in vocals and performance, we are finally coming back to Cwmbran to raise the roof at HMV. The last time I sang in Cwmbran town was in 2019 for Stand Up To Cancer where I sang and hosted the day, raising money for charity.”

The free, unticketed gig takes place at 4pm on Saturday 7 March 2026. The band will also perform at venues in Cwmbran and Newport later in the year.

Kaylene added: “I learnt so much about music in both Cwmbran and Bristol and perform so many genres. That’s why I love the idea of ‘Kalamity’. It’s a mixture of everything, and I want to bring that to Cwmbran and shine a light on the amazing and diverse music scene here. HMV Live and Local is a great way to showcase that, and it’s amazing to be a part of it.”

She has previously performed in the 2016 Welsh Factor final at the Parkway Hotel and at the 2019 St Dial’s Party in the Park.
