These are the best photos I’ve ever seen of Owen Filer. The character and personality of Wales’ oldest man were captured perfectly by Cwmbran-based photographer Sarah Cullen.
The set of pics of the 106-year-old man landed in my inbox and I had to find out more.
I asked Sarah to tell me more about the special shoot in her home studio in Henllys.
She told me: “Owen spent the afternoon at my home studio with his granddaughter Sarah.
“These portrait shots were captured throughout the afternoon as he sat with me and told many stories of his childhood, his time in the army, lots of lovely stories of his late wife, and singing lots of songs from his favourite musicians.
“I asked Owen the secret to living to 106. He said: ‘having faith, daily prayers, and finding and understanding true love.’
“He also said his wish for younger generations is that people learn to slow down and appreciate things around them. He feels that people are living in the fast lane and rushing too much, and the world needs to slow down to enable people to appreciate achieving things and getting to places slowly.
“It was an absolute joy and privilege to spend the afternoon with Owen, and his cheeky, fun personality most definitely shone through.”
