I never thought I’d mention the customer service at our meal this evening at Legend Buffet Cwmbran.
That’s because it’s an ‘all you can eat’ Chinese buffet restaurant.
But fair play, the service from staff was spot on…despite it being a place where we as customers, just served ourselves. We had a warm welcome at the reception desk.
A staff member told us what was where and how this venue operated, including pointing out a little area tucked away with sushi and other goodies that we may have missed.
Throughout the evening, we had members of staff ask us how we were, clear our plates quickly, and finally a friendly goodbye. To be honest, I didn’t expect to meet any staff after paying.
Prices
The prices change depending on the day and time when you walk in and pay. And yes, you pay on arrival before you sit down, and then you can walk to the bar to buy drinks separately. Our visit was in the Sunday slot between 1pm and 9.30pm, so it cost us £18.99 each plus £3 for a large glass of Pepsi.
The nice thing about ‘pay before you eat’ is that as soon as you finish, you grab your coat and walk out. No waiting around to catch the attention of staff to bring you the bill, and then another ten-minute wait for the card machine to arrive. If you’re in a large group of friends or family, it also makes splitting the bill hassle-free. Everyone pays the same and it’s sorted before you get to your table.
The nice thing about ‘all you can eat’ venues is that you can pick and graze. There’s no ‘sharing’ of meals like Joey from Friends or Smithy from Gavin & Stacey. You choose what YOU want and enjoy it yourself- no ‘stealing’ by anyone else at your table.
As my photos show (both plates were mine), I’m a grazer- and liked trying small bits of various items. I stayed sensible and didn’t want to leave feeling stuffed – and I walked out happy and content with a cracking meal for a great price- ten minutes from my house.
My nieces love a particular fancy (and pricey) Chinese restaurant in Cardiff. I sent them a photo of my food and told them we were there. Despite the food looking and tasting spot on, my photos didn’t get past their eagle eyes, but it was on minor details. One replied saying the Cardiff place serves food in bowls and the other said it also has its name on the plates. Neither mentioned the food in the photo.
Yes, there’s a time and a place for certain special occasion places- but nine times out of ten, I’d take a value-for-money meal on my doorstep, over a drive to Cardiff, large bill and my wife trying to share my food.
Here is Legend Buffet Cwmbran’s price and time list. Below is the info if you’re attending with children. Oh, and there is an area with chips, pizza and nuggets etc if your young guests don’t fancy the Chinese selection.
