Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is reminding people in Gwent that urgent mental health support will remain available throughout the Christmas period.

Residents can access free help 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 111 and selecting option 2. The service is staffed by specially trained local mental health practitioners who can offer immediate advice and support when someone is struggling but not in a life‑threatening situation.

The helpline is available to adults and children of any age and provides one‑to‑one guidance tailored to individual needs.

Support is offered for a wide range of concerns, including worsening symptoms of an existing mental health condition, first‑time mental health difficulties, and situations where someone has self‑harmed but does not appear to be in immediate danger. The service can also help people showing signs of possible dementia, or those experiencing domestic violence or physical, sexual or emotional abuse.

Crisis Line number

People who already have a Crisis Line number from a health professional are advised to use it. Anyone under the care of a mental health team should follow the contact instructions set out in their care plan.

For general mental health information and self‑help resources, the Melo website provides free guidance to support wellbeing.

The Samaritans also operate a free, confidential helpline 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on 116 123.

Anyone in Gwent who is in need of mental health support and is unsure of where to go for help can find advice and signposting on the Gwent Health Guide.
