A nine-year-old Cwmbran boy has put an autograph from Wales’ oldest man on his bedroom wall.

This is lush! “To Max- Lovely to meet you all last week in your school.

I’m so sorry you didn’t get my autograph, and I hope that this letter helps. Be good and caring to everyone and who knows you may live longer than me. “HA HA!” Have a great Xmas. Best Wishes. Owen Filer”

This beautiful letter is from Wales’ oldest man to a nine-year-old boy from Cwmbran.

Owen Filer, 106, visited pupils in year five and six at Llantarnam Community Primary School on Thursday 4 December 2025. Max, nine, didn’t get a chance to ask Owen, 106, for his autograph.

When he got home, he told his mum Kirsty. She got a message to Mr Filer through his son, Barry, about the visit, and how Max wished he had got an autograph.

Max arrived home from school today to find a letter addressed to him and signed from Mr Filer.

Kirsty said her son was “over the moon” and he has put it on display on his bedroom wall.
