A group of friends who love singing together raised £255 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and The Parish of Our Lady and St David’s.
They sing as a group called Mello’D’ and last Friday held an evening of music at Our Lady of the Angel’s church in Old Cwmbran.
Lane Lippiatt, a member of Mello’D’, kindly shared this report from the night: “The evening commenced with a spirited hymn from everyone in attendance and a prayer by Father Daniel.
“It was then over to Mello’D’ to start the musical evening.
“Mello’D’ is a close part ladies’ harmony group consisting of Kim Peterson, Carla Haines, me, Jo Matthews, Helena Poulton, Even Jones, Ruth Smith and Jordana Smith, with our MD Paul Cook.
“We were proud to introduce Vocalis for their debut performance, a new choir put together by Paul Cook just four weeks before this event.

“They are made up from ex and current students of St Alban’s Roman Catholic School in Pontypool, friends and members of Gwent Chorale.
“A special thank you goes to Ruby Gregory for stepping in just hours before the performance to sing ‘Danny Boy’ due to illness and Matthew Cook for his haunting rendition of the theme from Schindler’s List on the clarinet.
“The evening ended with a two-minute silence, a final performance from Mello’D’ and rousing renditions of the National Anthems, God Save the King and Hen Wlad Fy Nhadu by both the performers and the audience.”
The soloists were Jordana Smith, Helena Poulton and Lane Lippiatt. Members of the ensemble were Grace Collins, Isabella Jordan and Seren Nash. Poems and scriptures were read by Jo Matthews, Helena Poulton, Father Daniel and Ruth Smith.
All performances were accompanied by Paul Cook on the piano.
