Ian Chandler has been announced as the lead candidate for the Green Party in the new constituency for this area at the Senedd 2026 elections.
Sir Fynwy Torfaen is the name of the area that will represent the former Torfaen and Monmouthshire constituencies for the Welsh Parliament.
Ian currently serves as a Monmouthshire county councillor. He is also the council’s cabinet member for social care, safeguarding and accessible health Services.
A press release from the party said he plays a “leading role in the Labour-Green coalition administration. Ian brings a strong track record of innovation in social care and a commitment to tackling health inequalities across Gwent.”
Elsewhere in Gwent, the party has chosen Rachel Roberts to stand as the lead candidate for the new Casnewydd Islwyn constituency and Anne Baker for the new Blaenau Gwent Caerffili Rhymni constituency.
