The chair of Cwmbran Community Council said that the Cwmbran Big Event at the Boating Lake showed “true community”.
The event on Saturday 14 June was organised by the community council with support from Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council. Thousands of people enjoyed an afternoon in the sun watching live entertainment on the stage, browsing the stalls, and taking part in activities from breakdancing to a gaming van to walking into a giant ‘whale’.
Councillor Rhiannon Bennett told Cwmbran Life: “I come every year, but this year I haven’t stopped. I’ve been walking around every stall chatting to people. I’ve been having a go at everything. I’ve made a badge, I’ve been in the big whale and learned all about the environment.
“A friend of mine came down and put a drone up, so we’ve got aerial shots which is amazing, to see it from that perspective.
“And all the acts on the stage, weren’t they amazing. There was a young person I used to work with [from Mics and Fins] just got up and sang. I cried.
“It is true community. You see people you know. Everyone’s sat down having picnics enjoying themselves, it’s just incredible.
“It’s a brilliant day out. We’ve been very lucky. It rained when we got here. but I was like, ‘no I’m trusting the weather’. It said it was going to be sunny, and it has been.”
