A Flag Raising Ceremony took place at the Army Reserve Centre in Ty Coch on Thursday 8 May to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The flag was raised by Sam Wilkins. Cllr Chris Morgan, chair of Cwmbran Community Council, welcomed everyone to the service. Piping Hot Cwmbran, a bagpipe and rum band, played The Lament.

The Call to Prayer was led by Reverend Frieda Evans and Brian Pippen read passages from the Old and New Testament. Nick Thomas-Symonds, Torfaen MP, paid tribute to those who served and fell in World War II. Cllr Gaynor James, Torfaen’s armed forces champion, read a passage to those who are serving today.

The service included the Lord’s Prayer, Exhortation, The Last Post, A minute’s silence, Reveille and Kohima.
The service ended with the National Anthem. It was organised by Cwmbran and District Ex-Services Association and Cwmbran Community Council.
