Shoppers in Cwmbran town centre watched actors perform the Easter story yesterday.

A Cwmbran drama group ended their performance of the Passion Play by ‘nailing’ the man playing Jesus to a wooden cross and lifting him up.

Throughout, he was shouted at by two men dressed as Roman soldiers as his followers screamed and cried.

The Salvation Army and Churches Together then held a service where shoppers could take part.

Churches from across Cwmbran came together to organise the Good Friday service with readings from representatives of several of them. The Salvation Army played hymns including ‘When I Survey The Wondrous Cross’ and ‘In Christ Alone.’

Activate, a group based at Victory Church, provided the actors for the Good Friday performance.

Cat Cullen, from the group, told Cwmbran Life: “You don’t realise how powerful it is until you see it come to life.”
