£8,000 of grants to support Torfaen residents over winter

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance (TVA) has given out a total of £8,030 of grants to seven community groups to support local residents through winter.

In the latest round  the funding panel for the community winter support fund decided to give:

  • £2,000- Torfaen Youth Service- “For approximately 50 hampers to known vulnerable young people and their families to provide a little bit of indulgence and fun activities to which they wouldn’t necessarily be able to afford, bringing them a little glimmer of festive cheer over this Christmas period.”
  • £1,480- Cyfannol Women’s Aid-  “To purchase warm clothing, hats, scarfs, and gloves for both the women and the children currently residing in their refuges.”
  • £3,367- Tasty not Wasty CIC- “To supply food for families for Christmas. Also aim to carry out Christmas lunch with activities for those who would be socially isolated.”
  • £308- Hope GB- “Christmas afternoon tea boxes for families at Hope GB.”
  • £250- Garnsychan Partnership- “To replenish food stocks and items of need which have not always been received through other donation sources.”
  • £250- CoStar- “Provide extra Christmas cupboard items to their Food Share Co-op members, and similar crisis food bags for those referred.”
  • £375- Age Connects- “Deliver a Christmas afternoon tea box to socially isolated older people living throughout Torfaen on the 23rd December to nominated people.”

Sabrina Cresswell, found of Tasty Not Wasty CIC, said; “Thank you so much. I wasn’t expecting that much. I now can book the vans and organise everything in advance.”

Lynne Howells, from CoStar, said: “That is fantastic news, thank you so much. We are very happy to accept.”

Apply for a grant with Torfaen Voluntary Alliance

The Community Winter Support Fund is available until the end of March 2022. Local organisations can submit applications for any projects that will “support with winter pressures.”
