71 ‘boy racers’ given warning letters in Cwmbran’s Morrisons car park and surrounding area

Cwmbran Morrisons
Police have followed up reports of ASB from car drivers using Morrisons car park in the evening

Seventy-one ‘boy racers’ have been given warning letters for anti-social behaviour in Cwmbran’s Morrisons car park and the surrounding area since May 2022.

Councillors for Cwmbran Community Council raised the issue with Gwent Police on behalf of their constituents.

Inspector Jennie Tinsley-Brustad was unable to attend the community council’s meeting on Wednesday evening but provided a written response that was read out by Clare Facey, acting clerk to the council.

It revealed that police have also seized cars from drivers with no licence or insurance (Section 165) and for using vehicles to cause alarm, distress or annoyance (Section 59)

The question was: “Can the police provide an update on ‘boy racers’ in Morrisons car park and surrounding area?”

Inspector Tinsley-Brustad’s wrote:

“Since May 2022 there have been:

  • 10 x Section 59 warnings issued
  • 2 x 165s Vehicle Seizures
  • 4 x Section 59 Vehicle Seizures
  • 71 x Warning letters sent out

“An ASB camera has been requested from the community safety team. The most suitable lamppost for this is in Morrisons which the community safety team will need to seek permission from Morrisons to utilise as it is private land. We are looking at progressing this. CSO Read and CSO Walker are regularly working afternoon shifts working until midnight to tackle the ongoing issues as well as gaining support from our Road Policing Team.

“I have a meeting with Councillor Joanne Gauden tomorrow (06.10.22) to discuss further.”

Cllr Gauden represents the county council ward of Croesyceiliog.
