A Cwmbran woman who has cerebral palsy woke up yesterday morning (Wednesday 28 July 2021) to find her mobility scooter had been stolen.

Julie Larke, from Pembrey Path in St Dials, made the shock discovery at around 8.30am on Wednesday 28 July.

The 49-year-old is well known in the community as she rides around the area daily.

She would lock up her blue scooter outside her home every day as it was too large to fit through her front door.

Her dad Dennis Larke spoke to Cwmbran Life. He said: “She’s very upset and can’t get about now. She mixes with people and goes everywhere she wants to go. She now can’t go visiting.

“Somebody has gone to the front door, cut the lock and taken the scooter. It’s always locked with a big biker’s padlock and a chain. It was fastened to the railings.

“She went out in the morning to go on it but it was missing. She told me and I phoned the police.”

Dennis called the police and an officer arrived at around 9.30am.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of a theft in St Dials, Cwmbran at around 8.50am on Wednesday 28 July. A blue KymCo Maxer mobility scooter was reportedly taken from outside an address in Pembrey Path at some point between 12.00am and 8.50am on Wednesday 28 July.

“The scooter was kept securely at the property and the lock was reportedly cut off. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area is asked to call Gwent Police, quoting log reference 2100264932.
