Watch this video of the finale from Croesyceiliog School’s opening night performance of School of Rock.

Rant and rave
and scream and shout.
Get all of your aggression out.
They try to stop you,
let ‘em know
exactly where they all can go.
And do it just as loudly as you can!
Stick it to the man!!!!!

A review of School of Rock

The opening night of School of Rock at Croesyceiliog School was a belter. It was a laughter-filled-foot-tapping-crowd pleasing show that made me snort in the first few seconds as we enjoyed I’m Too Hot For You to the closing scene where Stick It To The Man had by now become my favourite song in the world- go on, click on the link, read the lyrics and imagine your life if you lived it by… “Tired of the system! Stick it to the man! Rise up every system! Stick it to the man! Break the rules, Ignore the signs…”

The cast and crew stuck it to us in the audience. Not one of them wanted us to leave the school hall without a smile on our faces.

Jack Fowler played Dewey Finn, our inspirational teacher to perfection.  And like all the best teachers they have awesome colleagues with Alex Courtney (as Rosalie Mullins) as the strict headteacher whose secret love of rock finally bursts out as we get close to the Battle of the Bands final.

Harry Brain (as Ned Schneebly) and Maisie Cook (as Patty) were a funny couple whose love/hate/on/ off feelings towards Dewey/ each other gave us some comic scenes throughout the show.

The School of Rock band even took up instruments so hats off to  Ffion Thomas (as Katie), Lewys Sulman (as Zack), Dan Davis (as Lawrence) and Joe Langley (as Freddy). Amelia Hughes (as Tomika) gave us a lovely surprise as the girl who doesn’t speak but suddenly shares her stunning voice. Abbey Kendall (as Summer) was our band’s manager and once she was given her job title you knew the band were in safe hands.

It was a whole-school effort with pupils of all ages on the stage or off it. The school isn’t familiar to me so it was a nice touch to find around ten pupils were waiting in the reception area to guide us audience members on arrival to the refreshments, toilets, to buy a programme and go to our seats.
