VIDEO: Teenage snooker player Lewis Sinclair cancelled a flight to Spain so he could play Jimmy White. Now the Cwmbran potter aims to turn professional

Lewis Sinclair

Watch Lewis Sinclair talk about playing Jimmy White and his ambitions to turn professional.

I pulled into the car park at Redz Snooker Club at 9.55am. Lewis Sinclair, 17, was first in the queue waiting for the doors to open at 10am. It was a boiling hot day but he was keen to get into the club and start practising.

The former Croesyceiliog School pupil kindly bought me a cup of tea and we had a chat about how he quickly graduated from playing pool in a back room at the club to the full-size snooker tables. His highest break in practice is 137 and during a match he has notched up 95 but has his sights set on a century.

One story stands out that shows his determination to become a professional snooker player. In 2014 his mum booked a surprise holiday to Spain but the flight was on the same night Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White had agreed to visit the Cwmbran club. Lewis was offered the chance to play the legend and had a decision to make. It was a no-brainer and the flight was cancelled and rebooked. He played two frames against The Whirlwind and won one and lost one.

Can you help Lewis?

Redz Snooker Club give him a few hours each day of playing time and he also has sponsorship from Construction Forms Europe. Extra help would mean he can spend more time at the baize improving his game.

If you can help with sponsorship, paying for his table time or have a full-size table he could use please get in touch with him. He’s at Redz most days of the week or message him via his Instagram account.
