A new venue has been found to host a popular football tournament for Torfaen school children after a fire saw the event cancelled. The tournament was due to be held at The Football Factory sports centre on 4 April, but a fire tore through the building last month.

Luckily the event, which is run by Cwmbran Shopping and Gwent Police, will go ahead as planned on 4 April at Cwmbran Stadium. More than 130 children from 17 schools across Torfaen are due to take part in the event, which is now in its fifth year.

Neil Ely, Cwmbran Shopping’s security manager and organiser of the event said: “We are delighted to have found a new venue to host the tournament and we are looking forward to welcoming the kids to Cwmbran Stadium. Community is incredibly important to us at Cwmbran Shopping and we were devastated to hear about the fire at The Football Factory last month.

“We are looking forward to hosting another day of fun with Gwent Police and to see the community come together again.”

David Reynolds, community support officer at Gwent Police and fellow organiser, said: “This event has been a great success in previous years and this year will be no exception. Thanks to the generosity of the Torfaen Leisure Trust we have been able to find a new venue and we can offer a platform for talented young players to show their skills.”
