Cwmbran Community Council “dismayed” at plans to reduce fire cover in Cwmbran

Cwmbran Community Council met representatives of South Wales Fire & Rescue Service earlier this week to discuss proposals to review fire and rescue cover in Cwmbran.

Councillors told of their concerns at the impact of the proposals in the town and any proposals to cut the amount of cover provided in Cwmbran by getting rid of any engines.

Amongst the concerns raised were how the fire service could continue to serve the growing population of Cwmbran, speed of response times and the impact on local fire fighters employed by the service.

Councillor Stephen Brooks, who represents the Two Locks ward on Cwmbran Community Council said there was a lack of public support for the proposals and that councillors  were dismayed to be discussing this issue.

Councillors asked the Clerk to the Council, David Collins to submit a detailed response to the fire service as part of consultation exercise, setting out the concerns raised at the meeting.

Residents can respond to the Fire Cover Review consultation before 15 November 15 filling in this online questionnaire.
